Why use NFT for proof of ownership?
In economics, a fungible asset is something with units that can be readily interchanged – like money.
With money, you can swap a £10 note for two £5 notes and it will have the same value.
However, if something is non-fungible, this is impossible – it means it has unique properties so it can’t be interchanged with something else. It could be a house, or a painting such as the Mona Lisa, which is one of a kind. You can take a photo of the painting or buy a print but there will only ever be one original painting.
NFTs are “one-of-a-kind” assets in the digital world that can be bought and sold like any other piece of property, but which have no tangible form of their own. The digital tokens can be thought of as certificates of ownership for virtual or physical assets.
How to Receive your Frame
After you have purchased a Rubric NFT frame you will be presented with an order received page that allows you to download your frame. You can also download your frames any time from the My Account area. Wherever you can download your frame there is also an input field to enter a Polygon (MATIC) wallet address into. Enter your Polygon Wallet address and click ‘Mint NFT’ to mint your frame ownership proof into an NFT transaction. Make sure the wallet that you receive into is Polygon enabled and the app/software that manages that wallet allows you to see NFT’s (Collectibles, Assets or Tokens are other names).
Just because you can’t see an NFT in your wallet software does not mean the NFT is not linked to your wallet! You also can link your Polygon wallet to any wallet provider/software like Coinbase Wallet, AlphaWallet, OpenSea and many others – but not all let you view NFTs.
At Rubric we allow you to ‘mint later’ meaning after you have made the purchase in your own currency you immediately own the frame – you can choose later when to mint for each frame you order – minting is optional and only required when you need proof of ownership.
Download your frame images
To allow you to view your purchased images immediately, even before minting the NFT, we allow you to download a standard image on the order received page and at the My Frames page.
Step by step…
Step 1 - Buy your frames on Rubric
Rubric allows you to buy your frames with regular Fiat currency and you do not need to provide a wallet address at purchase.
Step 2 - Get yourself a Polygon (MATIC) wallet
You can set up a Polygon wallet in various ways and there is no recommended way as it depends on how and where you prefer to view your NFT in a wallet.
Popular apps like Coinbase Wallet, OpenSea, MetaMask allow you to create or link a Polygon wallet if you already have one.
For a simpler approach you can use an NFT friendly wallet app like AlphaWallet that will allow you to create and display a Polygon wallet within seconds of opening the app. It has good support for Polygon based NFTs too.
Step 3 - Find your wallet address
Depending on what app or browser plugin you are using for your wallet it may differe in how you get your ‘wallet address’. Most apps will display the address and allow you to copy it easily. Wherever there is a QR code for the address there is usually a long string of characters starting with 0x (that’s zero x) and is 64 characters long.
Step 4 - Mint and claim your NFT Frames
We offer instant downloads for the frame image – you immediately own the own the Frame!
To show proof of ownership you can optionally ‘mint’ it on the Polygon (MATIC) blockchain. Polygon is our choice of network due to it’s low fees (we pay these), fast minting and low environmental impact (it is proof of stake not proof of work).
You can mint each frame on your order received page or you can visit the My Frames part of your Account page at any time. On your first order an account is auto-created for you and a temporary password is sent which you should update immediately at the Account Details page.
Step 5 - Wait! (Be patient!)
It can take a short while for the blockchain to process the minting. It can take even longer for your wallet app of choice to see it completed.
When you get a NFT MINTED status shown on your frame product after minting. To the right of that is a View Transaction link. Click this to see the Polygonscan site details of the transaction. It will go from Pending, to processing to complete (you’ll see a lot of information and numbers when you do!)
- AlphaWallet seems fairly quick – moments after the transaction completes.
- Coinbase Wallet can take a day or so sometimes!
- And remember – not all wallet apps can show NFTs in your wallet. Make sure you wallet app/plugin can do so.
